Full Value Contract/Challenge By Choice
Full Value Contract
The Full Value Contract serves as a structure for creating behaviors that everyone in the classroom agrees to follow, and that everyone in the class agrees to work on maintaining throughout the life of the class. The Full Value Contract establishes an atmosphere of caring, of feeling connected, and feeling valued. This atmosphere is critical to students being able to participate fully and to establishing an environment where they can reach their goals. Chardon Middle School's Full Value Contract will include: BE HERE, BE SAFE, BE HONEST, PLAY HARD, CARE FOR AND SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW CLASSMATES, LET IT GO AND MOVE ON, and SET GOALS.
Challenge by Choice
"Challenge by choice" provides both the teacher and the student with the tools to assist the student in making sound choices. Coaxing a student into doing a difficult task of exercise teaches them only that they can be talked into doing something. Helping a student see that he or she has the right and ability to choose his or her level of challenge, and how to assess what is, and is not, an appropriate level of challenge, teaches him or her how to make positive decisions for life. The Challenge By Choice concept states that, "I as a participant have a choice, but within that choice, I must still challenge myself, and still work hard to meet my goals. Choosing NOT to be challenged is NOT okay!
